Hungry for God - Week of prayer and fasting



Hungry Week is an opportunity to begin the New Year seeking the Lord together in prayer and fasting, in a unified hunger for the Lord to purify our hearts, mobilize His Church and advance His kingdom in the world!

We invite you to join us in fasting in some way (food, tv, social media etc.), as an expression of our hunger for God and in order to focus more deliberately on praying for breakthrough. You may want to miss a meal, keep your TV turned off, stay off social media or go to bed and wake up earlier to spend more time in prayer, the bible. During the week itself, we'll encourage you with a daily email and prayer points.

Tues 22 Jan – Key day to gather in prayer
  • Prayers for our Nation (morning prayer relaunch), 7.15-8.30am with coffee before and break-fast at 8am
  • Hungry Deeper evening of prayer and worship, 7.30-9.30pm
Fasting ideas
  • Eat only liquid food (lots of soup)
  • Miss a meal each day or for one day - build up to this slowly especially if not used to fasting
  • Home Groups may want to meet a different evening/time of the week, miss a meal and pray together
  • Keep the television turned off
  • Switch off from social media
  • Technology blackout of TV, radio and social media (outside of work)
  • You may want to go to bed and wake up earlier to spend more time in prayer and the bible.Resources
  • Children who are keen to join in could drink water instead of juice, snack on fruit instead of sweets or probably pray instead of CBeebies/Youtube
Only fast from food if sensible health-wise - not if you are pregnant, ill or have an eating disorder
