Wandsworth Foodbank provides emergency food and support to local people in crisis, as well as advice and casework in partnership with Citizens Advice Wandsworth.
In 2018-19 we provided 5,770 three-day emergency food supplies to local people, 37% of which were for children.

Local people who’ve been pulled into poverty and food insecurity can be referred to us by one of 200 local referral agencies (eg Schools and children’s centres, GPs, charities social services and other Wandsworth Council teams.)People who’ve been referred are welcomed by volunteers at our five food bank centres in churches in Battersea, Clapham Junction, Putney, Southfields and Tooting; and exchange their voucher for food and essential toiletries for the household, packed according to their dietary requirements and family size, and offered choice whenever possible.

Volunteers offer guests drinks and snacks, a chance to talk, signposting to further support, and referral to our specialist Foodbank Adviser if needed.

But food banks are not a solution to poverty. In one of the world’s largest economies, no one should be forced to use a food bank to meet their basic needs. No parent should face the impossible option of paying their rent or buying sufficient food for their children.

That’s why every year we report what we’re seeing locally – the drivers and impacts of household food insecurity and food bank use – and suggest some actions we think would better anchor local people from being swept into poverty and hunger, and would move us closer to no longer needing to exist.

St Mark’s runs food bank sessions on Tuesdays 12.30-2.30pm and Fridays at 10am-12pm. Do get in touch if you’d like join our amazing team of volunteers  - we’d love as many people at church as possible to be involved in welcoming local people and offering hope and practical help in difficult times.

We’re grateful to everyone who volunteers already, and all who give money and food to help their neighbours in crisis. If you’d like to get involved – or more involved – you can find more information on donating foodvolunteeringgiving towards our running costs here, you can sign up for our email newsletter.

Thank you.
